Airport Overview
Situated near the U.S. - Mexico border, the El Paso International Airport
(ELP)showcases the region’s cultural heritage with a striking,
adobe-style terminal and various Tex-Mex restaurants and shops. ELP
airport is located five mile east of El Paso and serves the West Texas,
Southern New Mexico and Northern Mexico regions – making it an
important transportation center between the U.S. and Mexico. The airport
offers nonstop service to 15 cities including flights to Chihuahua and
Mexico City in Mexico. El Paso is served by eight major airlines with
low fare airline, Southwest, as the largest carrier. Besides serving
almost three million passengers a year, ELP airport hosts future astronauts
who use the airport to practice landing simulated shuttle aircraft as
part of NASA’s Training Center for Shuttle Astronauts.
